Caddick Construction has teamed up with Yorkshire-born author Chris Madeley to help West Yorkshire and North West school children celebrate World Book Day yesterday, despite being in Lockdown.
The celebrated author is taking time out to read to pupils remotely at Crofton Infants Schools in Wakefield and Sankey Valley St James’ CE Primary School in Warrington.
Chris and Caddick Construction have enjoyed a long association having worked together on her “Cones” series of books aimed at highlighting road and site safety issues to young children. Thousands of the books have been distributed free to schools and families across the UK as a result of the sponsorship partnership.
Chris Madeley said: “For as long as I can remember, I’ve always enjoyed reading and writing and I wanted to help to keep children’s enthusiasm for books alive during lockdown. As a parent, I know how hard it is to keep kids engaged and so the idea of doing a virtual book reading to celebrate today seems a great way to still reach them.”
Nicola Jones, Caddick’s Head of Marketing, agreed: “We always try to do something to celebrate World Book Day and we didn’t see why this year should be any different. The Cones series has been a huge hit with children across Yorkshire and North West and we thought a virtual book reading would get even more children interested, as well as highlight a few key road and site safety messages at the same time.”
