Marking the 26th annual Women in Construction Week, we caught up with some of the amazing women in our business, to share the exceptional work they do and get their thoughts on inclusivity in our industry, and what it means to them to be a woman in construction.
Rachael Welsh, Site Manager
Rachael is a Site Manager at Central Street, our major residential scheme in Bolton on behalf of Place First. As Site Manager, Rachael is responsible for our delivery out on site, overseeing construction work, managing our subcontractors, our health and safety and keeping our team on programme.
Rachael brings nearly 20 years of experience to her role with Caddick, having started out as a site supervisor on a range of refurbishment projects after a brief stint as a buyer for an equestrian company. Rachael has climbed the ranks to become an Assistant Site Manager to Site Manager, growing her experience on new build projects.
Rachel comments: “I love the design element of what we do” I’m a very regimented person so I love planning and organising our delivery, problem solving along the way to see everything come together. You also need confidence. Being out on site is a tough job; we’re on the frontline, it’s a fast-paced, high-pressure environment so we need to work as a team to get the job done.
“For me as a woman in construction, you have to choose the right company. The industry is very male dominated, but if you are in a respectful and supportive company then you never feel inequality. I’ve only been with Caddick a short time, but I’ve known the company and its reputation for a long time and I chose to work here because of its inclusiveness. We respect each other, and ultimately that means we can do our job as a team.”
