Lilian Kakoun - Celebrating Women in Construction

Lilian Kakoun - Celebrating Women in Construction

Marking the 26th annual Women in Construction Week, we caught up with some of the amazing women in our business, to share the exceptional work they do and get their thoughts on inclusivity in our industry, and what it means to them to be a woman in construction.

Lilian Kakoun, Project Manager

Having joined Caddick Construction in 2023, our Project Manager, Lilian, is currently part of the team at Burnholme Green and Duncombe Square, our two Passivhaus residential developments on behalf of City of York Council.

Previously an Architect, Lilian studied Architectural Design in Lebanon, going on to work in Dubai on a range of commercial development projects. Lilian moved to the UK in 2015 and after a brief period of voluntary work experience in construction to gain experience to support her RIBA qualification, Lilian is now five years into her career in the industry and has never looked back.

Lilian comments: “I was only ever planning to work in construction for a short time but I enjoyed it so much. I love being involved in the whole experience; my architectural knowledge gives me an advantage with planning, quality control and project management.

“I’m proud of being a woman in construction. A lot of women are coming into the industry, and it’s becoming much more diverse. This is great because from my experience, the industry is very inclusive. I’ve been lucky to work with passionate professionals, and that’s helped me. There are so many opportunities in construction, and I really believe there are non barriers. Nothing limits women; ability, ambition and passion all have a place in construction.”

“As a working mum, juggling everything can be a challenge but so rewarding at the same time. Being able to stand back and see a finished building and know I have played a crucial role in its completion is incredibly rewarding.”
