Going the Extra Mile for Our Communities

Going the Extra Mile for Our Communities

Leaving a positive and lasting legacy is really important to us at Caddick and we are wholly committed to serving and supporting the local areas in which we work.  Which is why we’ve set up our company-wide Communities Week, which in its first year saw nearly 50 employees donate over 200 hours of their time to various community projects, schemes and charities.

Whether we can support through the use of local labour and supply chains to support the regional economy, or help to educate and train the future workforce, we work hard to make a difference with every build we deliver. Here are just a few examples of our recent work with the local community…

👣 Putting our best foot forward

In June we were headline sponsor for St Ann’s Hospice midnight walk in Manchester, a moonlit 10k walk through the city centre that saw hundreds of attendees raise over £60,000 for the hospice. Goodie bags for all involved were sponsored by Caddick Construction.

👷🏽 Inspiring young people

This International Women in Engineering Day, our team at One City Park celebrated the occasion with Year 5 students at Peel Park Primary School in Bradford. The children were tasked with building bridges from paper drinking straws. Some fantastic creations took place and the students also gained valuable insight into the world of construction.

💬 Peel Park School commented:

“I think that the visit has really opened the students’ eyes to the range of careers available in construction and engineering, as well as reinforcing the need for other key skills such as effective communication, teamwork, problem-solving and resilience. It has also been particularly relevant as we've been focusing on sustainability this half term and it was very interesting learning about how constructors within our city are trying to minimise their environmental impact. I definitely think we have some budding engineers!”

🍎 Helping Support People In Need

As Caddick continues to grow it’s important that our recruitment can enable change for good. That’s why we’ve partnered with We Are Footprint, a recruitment social enterprise. Currently, 51% of the profits made from our North West recruitment drive is injected back into the community.

Alongside We Are Footprint employee, Pippa, our Social Value Manager, Faye, donated her time and catering skills to a local homeless charity, Helping Support People in Need.

🦺 Laying the foundations for the next generation in construction

We’re currently supporting a huge number of apprentices, graduates and T-Level students across Yorkshire, the North East and the North West, giving them a route into our industry and enabling them to achieve their dreams.

In the North West, we have Year 1 T-Level Design Surveying and Planning student, Charley Pattern, who joins us on our Stretford Mall development, having started his placement with us at Alderley Park. Charley is extremely driven, keen to learn and a pleasure to work with.

At our Yorkshire sites, One City Park, Stonebridge Beck, Duncombe Barracks and Burnholme, Caddick is also supporting four T-Level students. Dan Hogben, a year 1 T-Level student studying Design, Surveying and Planning at York College is just one of these few, he comments:

💬 “My time on site has opened my eyes to what I want to work towards, working with the site and Project Manager has given me a good idea of what the role consists of and what I will hopefully achieve in the near future.”

📚 Educating on-site safety

Caddick joined author Chris Madeley in a visit to two local primary schools near our Duncombe and Burnholme sites in York. Here we delivered an inspiring talk on building and construction safety, enforced with a reading from Chris’ book, Cones on Site, which Caddick initially supported the creation of. Each Key Stage One student received a copy of this amazing book on-site safety following the session.

What people say?

We really appreciate the time and effort that went into making this all happen. It's fantastic to see people working in the industry and giving some insight to the pupils about what the various careers in construction involve.
