Caddick Construction and The Guinness Partnership are celebrating the halfway milestone at Edward Street in Stockport, a new-build development which will provide 131 new homes to the area once complete.
Joined by Councillor Colin MacAlister, Stockport’s Cabinet Member for Economy, Regeneration & Housing, Paul Richards, Deputy CEO, and Andy Kippax, Head of Housing Strategy from Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council, the event marked a significant milestone in construction.
Meeting demand for high-quality affordable new homes in the area, this 11-storey development will comprise 131 one and two-bedroom apartments with a range of amenities, including over 130 cycle storage spaces, EV charging points, landscaping and public realm improvements to promote biodiversity.
The new development will feature 63 homes for affordable rent and 68 for social rent, adding to the 12,000 homes managed by The Guinness Partnership in the Greater Manchester area and 70,000 homes across England.
Edward Street marks the second of The Guinness Partnership’s affordable housing developments delivered by Caddick in the North West, with the regional contractor also building 63 new homes at Kiwi Street in Salford.
The next phase of construction at Edward Street will see Caddick’s specialist facade contractor, CCL Facades, deliver the curtain walling system, including the business’ own patented A2-rating aluminium Speedpanel, which is manufactured in the UK.
Dave Saville, Regional Managing Director of Caddick Construction North West, commented: “The success of this development has been made possible through a collaborative and long-standing relationship with The Guinness Partnership, and we are pleased to celebrate this milestone with them. Working with like-minded developers is an important part of our business. The Guinness Partnership’s ambition to improve the lives of local people, paired with Caddick’s legacy for delivering high-quality schemes, has been key to both Edward Street and Kiwi Street in Salford, both of which are bringing much-needed homes to the region.”
Kevin Williams, Group Director of Development & Commercial Services for The Guinness Partnership commented: “The Topping out of Edward Street is a significant milestone in bringing more new homes to Stockport as part of our commitment to supporting development in Greater Manchester. We would like to thank our partners on this project, Homes England, the Greater Manchester Combined Authority, Caddick Construction, Bowker Sadler Architects and Simon Fenton Partnership who have all been part of getting us to this major milestone. We would also like to thank Stockport MBC for supporting the project and its commitment to providing homes at the heart of the town centre.”
Councillor Colin MacAlister, Cabinet Member for Economy, Regeneration & Housing, Stockport Council said: “The Guinness Partnership are a valued Stockport Housing Partnership Registered Provider and it was great to be part of the topping out event and see the good quality homes that are being delivered, with many more planned as we move forward with our ambitious plans to create a new town centre neighbourhood. This development will provide much needed affordable homes for rent in a prime town centre location.”
Part-funded by Homes England and the Greater Manchester Combined Authority Brownfield Housing Fund, construction at Edward Street commenced in late 2023 when the team welcomed Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham, and Leader of Stockport Council, Mark Hunter to mark the milestone.
