Local MP visits new Wakefield city centre development set to deliver 50 affordable homes

Simon Lightwood MP visited Malthouse View, a new affordable housing development in the centre of Wakefield by Vico Homes.

Malthouse View, built by Caddick Construction, is a development of 50 affordable homes including 26 townhouses and 24 apartments. All homes will be managed by Vico Homes and available for a mix of shared ownership and affordable rent.

Simon Lightwood MP took a tour of the development including having the first look at one of the almost completed townhouses.

Vico Homes has received grant funding from Wakefield Council and Homes England to make this new affordable development possible.

Joel Owen, Director of Development and Growth at Vico Homes said:

“We’re committed to delivering more affordable homes with plans to deliver 10,000 homes over the next 10 years. But this development is about more than just new homes. It’s about creating opportunities, strengthening communities, and ensuring more people have access to a warm, safe and affordable place to live. We’re delighted to showcase the progress being made here at Malthouse View.” Joel Owen, Director of Development and Growth at Vico Homes

Simon Lightwood MP, said:

“It was great to see the construction of 50 new, affordable homes at Malthouse View first-hand - known to most of us in Wakefield as the old Chantry House site. I’m especially pleased that Caddick Construction - a family firm with its roots in Wakefield - is building these homes. Local homes, for local people, built by local builders."

"This comes alongside our Government’s historic increase in public investment, including £39bn for social and affordable homes, the biggest long-term investment in a generation.
"For too many, the dream of a secure home has been out of reach. It's great to see Wakefield Council working with partners, like Vico Homes and Caddick Construction, to change that.”"For too many, the dream of a secure home has been out of reach.
