I am currently studying SRSCC (Supply Chain Consultant and Training), working towards my CIPS Level 3 qualification, the course lasts two years and it’s a great way to kick start your career. I find the apprenticeship route a really effective way to learn both the practical and theoretical sides of the role at the same time - being able to apply what I learn straight into my day to day work really helps me to understand it.
I am really enjoying my apprenticeship so far and I’ve had the opportunity to learn new skills, take on responsibility, and gain a better understanding of the buying and supply chain process. The support from Caddick has helped me grow in confidence and I feel comfortable asking questions and developing within my role.
I have felt supported throughout my apprenticeship, particularly through the patience and understanding shown towards my learning. I’ve been given the time needed to study and develop my skills properly. The opportunities to visit sites and suppliers’ factories has also been a great learning experience, as it gives me a much clearer understanding of how the supply chain works in practice.
I’ve gained key knowledge from my colleagues and managers who have years of experience in the industry, which is something you can’t always get from classroom learning alone. Lee Knight our North West Regional Buyer and Supply Chain Director, Andy Trowell have both been very supportive, they have acted as mentors, offering guidance, sharing their experience, and helping me develop my knowledge and confidence in the role.
I really enjoy the variety within my role, it means I’m constantly learning something new, meeting new people and building strong working relationships with suppliers.
I would definitely recommend applying for an apprenticeship, you benefit from gaining a recognised qualification while also becoming more experienced in a real working environment. Another major advantage is that you don’t leave university with financial strain, meaning you can focus on building your career straight away.
