New Chorlton Later Living Development Reaches Completion

Caddick Construction has handed over 50 new apartments to Mosscare St Vincent (MSV) Housing Group, marking completion of a new residential development designed to HAPPI (Housing our Ageing Population Panel for Innovation) principles.

Caddick was appointed to design and build the two five storey buildings off Manchester Road, which includes 40 affordable rent apartments, seven shared ownership homes for sale and three neighbourhood apartments, which will be leased by Manchester City Council.

Work included the construction of a mix of low carbon, single-bed apartments and two-bedroom homes, a residents lounge, a central courtyard and garden for residents’ use, as well as car parking facilities and bicycle storage.

Throughout the project, Caddick and MSV Housing delivered on a shared commitment to invest in the local community through a range of social value initiatives. This resulted in over £5k in donations, 65 hours of volunteering, 60 hours supporting people into work and 40 hours delivering sessions in schools.

Activities included career talks at Trafford College, attending Manchester College’s National Careers Week, providing site tours and work experience for students from Salford City College, as well as volunteering at the Little Green Sock project and Chorlton Park.

Employability initiatives included Caddick’s participation in We Are Footprint’s ‘We Are Bridging the Gap’ programme in collaboration with Catch 22. The team also engaged eight individuals facing barriers into employment, 11 apprentices and 70 local Greater Manchester residents, all of which have since been appointed to roles with Caddick and its subcontractors.

The £14m extra care development was funded by MSV Housing Group, Manchester City Council, Greater Manchester Combined Authority and Homes England.

Dave Saville, Regional Managing Director of Caddick Construction North West commented:

“We’re pleased to hand over this new development to MSV Housing Group following the successful completion of the project. The team has actively sought out meaningful ways to create a positive impact both on and off site, with community investment and engagement forming a key part of our approach. We’re particularly proud of the difference we’ve made by helping local people overcome barriers to employment, whether at the beginning of their careers or looking for something new.

“It has been a pleasure to work in close partnership with MSV Housing to deliver this innovative development, which will provide high quality, comfortable homes for Chorlton residents to live well and thrive in later life.” Dave Saville, Regional Managing Director of Caddick Construction North West

Charlie Norman, Chief Executive of MSV Housing Group, said:

"I can’t tell you how thrilled I am to see this wonderful scheme come to fruition. It’s been exciting to see Bath House grow from what was an overlooked brownfield site to now fit so beautifully in its surroundings – a true testament to the architects and contractors, as well as MSV’s team, having the vision to create something that looks like it has always been here.”

“Chatting to new customers it’s been lovely to welcome them to their new homes and it’s clear to see this has already made a massive difference to the area. I’d like to thank Manchester City Council, Homes England and the Greater Manchester Combined Authority for partnering with MSV on this project, and Caddick Construction for being such a considerate contractor."
