Building work on the first phase of Little Digbeth has reached a major milestone as Caddick Construction tops out the 10-storey residential development on behalf of joint venture partners Cole Waterhouse, Taurus Investment Holdings and Housing Growth Partnership (HGP).
The topping out ceremony saw the project team welcome all project partners to site to tour show apartments and the site via a designated green route, convening on the roof to view the ongoing transformation of Digbeth.
The milestone has seen the 182,986 sq ft building reach its highest point following the start of construction in Spring last year, with the site also receiving devolved brownfield regeneration grant funding from West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA). Completion is scheduled for 2027.
As one of Birmingham’s most anticipated regeneration schemes, Little Digbeth’s first phase - The Sidings - will deliver 211 high-quality apartments across 182,986 sq. ft alongside reinvigorated public spaces and affordable workspace, contributing to the ongoing regeneration of Digbeth.
The new development forms part of Cole Waterhouse’s masterplan to create a vibrant, well-connected community at the heart of the city's creative and cultural quarter. Further phases are set to include a range of event, work and creative spaces with residential, leisure and hotel accommodation.
Caddick Construction was appointed to design and build the development’s first phase last year, adding to the contractor’s growing portfolio of high profile residential schemes since launching in the region in 2023.
Ray O’Sullivan, Regional Managing Director of Caddick Construction Midlands, commented:
“The redevelopment of brownfield land is an extremely valuable way of meeting growing demand for housing, and regeneration projects of this nature bring much more than homes for local people. We’re very proud to be delivering the first phase of Little Digbeth, which will become a catalyst for further investment and regeneration in the Digbeth area.” Ray O’Sullivan, Regional Managing Director of Caddick Construction Midlands
Simon Gallanders, Managing Director of Residential at Cole Waterhouse, said:
