Rising Star: Apprentice Earns Coveted Spot On The Top 30 Under 30

As Caddick Civil Engineering’s Assistant Site Manager, Tyler Collins, embarks on a year-long training programme with Leeds & West Yorkshire Top 30 Under 30, he shares his thoughts on ambition and drive in his early career, degree apprenticeships with Caddick, and what lies ahead for the future.

Just last month Tyler Collins was named amongst the Leeds and West Yorkshire Top 30 Under 30s winners, an accolade he was nominated for by Simon Martin, Caddick Civil Engineering’s Managing Director. This recognition is one that follows two years of hard work  for Tyler, honing his skills and taking on new responsibilities with unwavering diligence and confidence.

Speaking of this achievement, Tyler comments: “When I got the call from Simon to say I’d been shortlisted for the 30 Under 30 list, it was a huge surprise but one that I really appreciated. To be recognised like that, by both your employer and the awarding body, has been a great acknowledgement that all my hard work is paying off and it keeps me motivated.

“I have always had an inner drive to achieve the best for myself, and when I was a teenager, that was through mountain bike racing. I would train and compete in downhill racing, where I made it to 5th in the UK and 1st in Yorkshire at 18. However, due to an injury, I was forced to take a back seat, but I think that determination is still within me. Where I was once fixated on getting the fastest lap times, I’m now focusing that effort on my career and building the best opportunities for myself.”

Tyler will now undertake a year-long experience with Leeds & West Yorkshire Top 30 Under 30, a programme which aims to recognise and support rising stars across the region with development and training opportunities in line with the Leadership Excellence Acceleration Programme (LEAP). The programme selects a group of inspiring individuals and provides the unique opportunity to further enhance their leadership skills, with monthly sessions led by communication, self-development and leadership experts. The 12-month training programme will culminate in a prestigious awards ceremony for all participants.

Tyler continues: “Since joining Caddick in 2021, I’ve felt a huge difference in myself both personally and professionally, and the training and opportunities that have come my way have been amazing. I’m currently studying for a Degree Apprenticeship in Construction Management, but alongside that Simon Martin and the team on-site have put their trust in me and opened the door for extended learning and progression in my day-to-day role, which I am very thankful for.”

Speaking of Tyler’s achievements, Simon Martin, Managing Director for Caddick Civil Engineering, comments: “I know I speak on behalf of myself and the team when I say this recognition from Leeds & West Yorkshire’s Top 30 Under 30 is a huge testament to Tyler's character. He has a great thirst for learning and improvement, which he always takes on with diligence and confidence. He is an integral part of our team at Caddick Civil Engineering and his contributions to the business have been outstanding. The commitment he has is total and clearly demonstrated through his work with Caddick and his studies. As a result, he has been given additional duties and tasks with greater responsibilities, and this shall undoubtedly continue as he progresses further.

“With the training programme that now lies ahead of him, I have no doubt he will only strengthen his skill set further and continue to display a thirst for growth. We want to congratulate Tyler on this achievement and look forward to continuing to support and invest in his development as he takes on this well-deserved training opportunity. ”

Tyler comments: “I’m coming up to the final year of my degree and once complete I look forward to shifting that energy into my work at Caddick, getting my head down and perfecting my current job role. Ultimately, I’d like to work my way up and build a great career for myself. I want to thank Simon and the Caddick business for giving me the opportunities to grow; I have been continually supported throughout my development, and no other work environments have compared to that.”
