Women in Construction Week 2025: ‘The key to succeed is to have confidence’

We’re rounding off Women in Construction Week with some thoughts from Francescha Babbington, our Senior Quantity Surveyor, who is currently undertaking a Women in Leadership course, adding to an impressive CV of over ten years in construction.

I’ve always been fascinated by the process of buildings and the design of it, as well as the satisfaction of the final result and appreciating all the detail that goes into it. During my time in construction, I’ve been lucky enough to have experience with site management, BIM - by carrying out BIM designs and simulations - and I’m now in the commercial department, which I think best suits me. Having experienced the different roles within Construction, I think it’s broadened my knowledge and understanding.

I started in the industry almost 13 years ago as an assistant site manager for another contractor. My immediate first impressions on site was that people automatically stereotype and assume you aren’t part of the leadership team.  It’s a completely different dynamic now compared to when I started, which shows just how much the industry has changed. There’s definitely been a few obstacles during my journey in construction but with the right team around me to encourage me and treat me as an equal - as well as understanding the need for a work-life balance - it’s given me more determination to succeed.

During my short time at Caddick, the business and the team around me have been very inclusive and supportive of my family commitments, along with helping me set goals and proactively put steps in place to achieve them. I’m currently taking part in a Women in Leadership course to help with my career progression. This has taught me the key to success is to have confidence, don’t be scared to ask questions, start with a positive mindset, forward think and plan, and make sure you’re taking time for yourself for your mental well-being.
