Caddick Construction is on site delivering a £36.8 million build-to-rent (BTR) scheme at Galley’s View in Sunderland city centre, on behalf of Placefirst.
The development will provide 165 high-quality, professionally managed rental homes, comprising 67 houses and 98 apartments. Located on a 4.57-acre brownfield site, the scheme will transform underutilised land into a vibrant new neighbourhood, with a mix of private and communal gardens designed to support modern city living.
A New Neighbourhood for Sunderland
Galley’s View marks the second residential neighbourhood within Sunderland City Council’s Riverside Sunderland masterplan, which aims to bring forward 1,000 new homes in the city centre. Designed to achieve EPC ‘A’ ratings, the homes will deliver high levels of energy efficiency, supporting both residents and the city’s wider sustainability ambitions.

Supporting Regeneration in the North East
We broke ground in December 2025, marking a key milestone in Sunderland’s ongoing regeneration and the delivery of the Riverside Sunderland vision. Delivered in partnership with Sunderland City Council, the scheme is supported by funding from the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government, the North East Combined Authority and Sunderland City Council, reflecting a strong collaborative approach.

As main contractor, we are contributing to the creation of a sustainable, mixed-tenure neighbourhood that will provide long-term benefits for the local community.
