Vangarde Shopping Park in Monks Cross, York, is a 339,000 sq ft retail-led development delivered through a joint venture between Caddick Group Plc and Oakgate Group Plc.
The centre is home to York’s first John Lewis and a flagship Marks & Spencer, alongside Next, four restaurants, four kiosks, and a large central car park, creating a vibrant destination for shopping and leisure.
Sustainability and Community Focus
Targeting a BREEAM Excellent rating, the development incorporates landscaped ponds to manage surface water and support local wildlife. Ecological measures, including the relocation of protected Great Crested Newts, ensured sensitive construction on the previously greenfield site. The project also includes a sports facility, providing a home for York City FC and the York City Knights rugby league team, enhancing community engagement alongside retail and leisure offerings.

We found Caddick to be very thorough and professional during the tender negotiation and pre-construction period with director level input provided throughout. Caddick quickly developed a very good understanding of the project, bringing their considerable knowledge and experience to the table.
