Caddick Construction has grown its education portfolio with its appointment to build the new £11.4m Pudsey Sixth Form College in Leeds, becoming the latest contract to be awarded to the contractor under NEPO’s £800m Construction Works solution.
Work is now underway on site and will see Caddick build a new teaching block to cater for 600 students aged 16 to 18 years next to Crawshaw Academy on Kent Road.
Delivered on behalf of Luminate Education Group, the new Pudsey college will expand the sixth form provision across Leeds, adding capacity to the further education facilities at Leeds Sixth Form College, Leeds West Academy, Crawshaw Academy and Co-Op Academy Priesthorpe, who are all partners of the project.
Caddick was awarded the contract through the NEPO Construction Works solution, to which it was appointed in 2023, providing Luminate with an efficient procurement route to deliver much-needed sixth form space for the city.
Work on the project, which is expected to reach completion in time for the 2025/26 academic year, will also include associated car parking, access roads and associated utilities.
Steve Ford, Regional Managing Director of Caddick Construction Yorkshire & North East, commented: “Delivering new school places - whether primary, secondary or further education - requires efficiency and value for money, both of which are made possible through framework procurement. Working collaboratively with Luminate has not only opened the door to the benefits of the NEPO framework, but it also gives us valuable insight into their vision as educators, to ensure that Pudsey Sixth Form College upholds the Group’s values and ambition for the Leeds City Region.”
Phil Mark, Principal of Sixth Forms at Luminate Education Group, said: “We’re looking forward to providing the next generation with a modern learning environment, which delivers outstanding results and supports the transition of students from school to higher education or employment.
“As well as enjoying access to high quality facilities, students will have the chance to study a much broader curriculum, opening the door to career opportunities and other experiences.
“By investing in education provisions in Pudsey, we will not only ensure that young people have additional learning opportunities locally, but we will also help to create additional space for the growing number of 16-18-year olds in Leeds over the next decade.”
Jane Turner, Construction Lead at NEPO, added: “It’s fantastic to see our Construction Works solution recognised as a framework of choice beyond the North East. This nationally available solution is open to all public sector organisations, ensuring access to high-quality, innovative suppliers across the UK. We look forward to seeing the project progress and to delivering an exceptional educational facility that will benefit future generations."
