Caddick Hands Over Mansion House At Port Loop To Urban Splash & Places For People

Completion of £14m contract marks the conclusion of Caddick’s first project in the Midlands.

Caddick Construction has reached completion of 58 new apartments at Port Loop, handing over the six-storey development to joint venture partners, Urban Splash and Places for People.

The handover of Mansion House at Port Loop marks the completion of Caddick’s first project in the Midlands following its launch in the region in 2023. Work has seen Caddick develop a complex of new apartments at the 43-acre island community alongside Birmingham Canal.

Handover of the landmark project also marks the completion of a package of works by Caddick’s specialist facade contractor, CCL Facades, also the first Midlands contract to be delivered by the business.

CCL Facades’ work on site saw the team deliver the building’s facade, including a bespoke aluminium curtain walling system with terracotta finishes, and the installation of windows and roof lights.

Caddick’s work at Port Loop saw the team fulfil the business’ commitment to positively impact the local community. This included the employment of three apprentices within the project team and career presentations for construction students at James Watts College.

Charity initiatives included a £1,000 donation to Birmingham Care Group Food Pantry to support its ‘Kids Eat Free’ campaign to help local families in crisis, and the team volunteered at Birmingham Settlement Nature and Wellbeing Centre.

The project also saw Caddick engage a local supply chain to boost regional employment, with £5.2m of supplier and sub-contractor work packages procured within 30 miles of the Port Loop site.

Since its appointment to Port Loop in 2023, Caddick has built a strong contract roster valued at £90m with a current order book of £250m across the residential, industrial, process manufacturing and commercial sectors.

Launching from premises at Northpring, Temple Street, the business has also seen significant team growth over the past two years, expanding from an initial team of 10 to 60+, including site-based apprentices and trainees.

Ray O’Sullivan, Regional Managing Director of Caddick Construction Midlands, commented:

“The completion and handover of Port Loop is a real milestone for Caddick, not least because it is a significant regeneration development for Birmingham. To have this as our first project is a mark of the reputation Caddick brought to the region when we launched in 2023. We have also worked alongside our colleagues at CCL Facades at Port Loop, which has created valuable collaboration and ensured we deliver exceptional standards at one of Birmingham’s most exciting new neighbourhoods.” Ray O’Sullivan, Regional Managing Director of Caddick Construction Midlands

Adam Willetts, Development Director at Urban Splash, said:

“Mansion House is a striking new addition to Port Loop and another important milestone in the evolution of this distinctive waterside community. It’s a beautifully designed building, and Caddick have delivered it to a high standard. Just as importantly, their team became part of the local community while on site, creating social value and leaving a positive legacy beyond the building itself.” Adam Willetts, Development Director at Urban Splash

Nilam Buchanan, Regional Managing Director for Central and North Developments at Places for People, added:

“Mansion House brings a further mix of high-quality homes to Port Loop, supporting our ambition to offer a range of tenures that meet the diverse needs of local people. It’s another step forward in our shared vision to create inclusive, vibrant neighbourhoods where communities can grow and thrive.” Nilam Buchanan, Regional Managing Director for Central and North Developments at Places for People
