A major programme to replace cladding at West Point in Leeds has successfully reached completion, with Caddick Construction concluding one of the largest recladding schemes outside of London.
The extensive work at the 16-storey residential development on Wellington Street has seen Caddick replace 12,000 sq. m of existing cladding, the equivalent of the footprint of Trafalgar Square, and 2,500 sq. m of brickwork, the size of six basketball courts.
Replaced with a fully compliant system in line with the Building Safety Act, the façade install has also included the replacement of 25,000 linear meters of firestops and cavity barriers, equidistant to the journey from Leeds to Wakefield.
Designed to ensure the building meets current fire safety regulations, the investment at West Point has seen the complete transformation of one of Leeds’ landmark residential developments to provide long-term reassurance and protection for residents and stakeholders.
Delivered on behalf of Mainstay Residential and West Point Management, the project was completed while the building remained fully occupied. This required careful planning and close collaboration with residents and business occupants.
Throughout the project, Caddick also invested in a range of initiatives to support over 200 students across Leeds, including partnership initiatives with Leeds Beckett University and Castleford College.
Caddick also teamed up with Leeds College of Building students to carry out £2,000 worth of refurbishment works at Herd Farm Residential and Activity Centre, supporting one of the city’s vital community resources.
Steve Ford, Regional Managing Director, Caddick Construction North East & Yorkshire, commented:
“The successful and safe completion of this project is a testament to the detailed planning, technical expertise and close coordination between our team and our supply chain partners. We’re particularly grateful to the building’s occupants for their patience and cooperation throughout the works; completing a project of this scale with residents in situ is never without its challenges.
“Being entrusted with such a significant fire safety compliance scheme is a responsibility we take extremely seriously. Our priority throughout was protecting and contributing to the wellbeing of the community while delivering a robust, fully compliant solution that will stand the test of time. The new façade provides a secure future for everyone who lives and works within the West Point development.” Steve Ford, Regional Managing Director, Caddick Construction North East & Yorkshire
