Caddick Construction successfully delivered the redevelopment of Headingley Stadium in Leeds - a world-renowned venue with a proud sporting heritage dating back to the late 1800s.
The scheme transformed both the cricket and rugby grounds, ensuring the facilities meet international standards while preserving the venue’s legacy as the home of Yorkshire County Cricket Club and Leeds Rhinos.
The redevelopment included a new North/South Stand providing 4,223 seats for cricket supporters and 3,825 for rugby fans, along with upgraded corporate areas, including a new banqueting suite, the refurbished Taverners Suite and enhanced broadcasting facilities. A new South Stand was also constructed for rugby, offering a capacity of 7,721, improved concession areas, new turnstiles, and upgraded changing, medical and referee facilities.
Delivering a large-scale redevelopment within a live sporting venue required careful planning, coordination and stakeholder engagement. Caddick maintained close collaboration with Yorkshire County Cricket Club, Leeds Rhinos and Leeds City Council to ensure construction activities were safely managed around match schedules and public events. The project demanded detailed logistics planning to manage access, safety, and continuity of operations within the city-centre location. Through disciplined programming and clear communication, the redevelopment was completed on time and to the high standards expected of an internationally recognised stadium.

The Headingley Stadium redevelopment delivered lasting value to the local community and economy. Caddick employed local labour and subcontractors wherever possible, creating new opportunities within Leeds and the wider Yorkshire region. The upgraded venue now supports increased tourism and community engagement through major national and international sporting events. By preserving Headingley’s heritage while modernising its facilities, the project has ensured that this historic stadium continues to inspire future generations of sports fans and athletes alike.

Caddick prioritised sustainability throughout the redevelopment. Local suppliers were used to reduce transport emissions and support the regional economy, while construction waste was carefully managed through the SMARTWaste system, achieving a high recycling rate. Modern building systems were installed to improve energy efficiency and reduce operational costs, including enhanced insulation, LED lighting and efficient mechanical systems.
The redevelopment has significantly improved the stadium’s long-term environmental performance while maintaining the character and atmosphere that make Headingley unique.
