Caddick Construction has delivered a £10 million extension at Loreto Sixth Form College in Hulme, Manchester.

Forming part of the city’s Victoria North Masterplan, the new three-storey campus building enhances teaching capacity and supports the college’s growth by an additional 600 students, providing much needed, quality learning space for the local community.

Expanding Educational Facilities

The 24,000 sq ft development provides 20 new classrooms, a 200-seat lecture theatre, and a dedicated study centre, alongside a new catering facility with quiet seating areas for reflection and study. Existing science laboratories within the Ball Building have also been remodelled to improve curriculum delivery.

Built for Sustainability and Wellbeing

Sustainability was central to the design. The building’s steel frame and masonry façade ensure long-term durability and energy performance, while air source heat pumps, solar panels, passive ventilation and night cooling help meet nearly 40% of its electrical demand through renewable sources. Externally, the works have revitalised the campus with landscaped reflection areas, a science garden, and improved access, complemented by EV charging bays and cycle storage for 100 bicycles.

Delivering Social Value

Caddick’s delivery generated £5.9 million in social value, creating 11 apprenticeships and a T-level placement, alongside £3,000 in donations to local charities. Students were also engaged through career talks and mentoring initiatives led by the project team.
