A pioneering Net Zero Carbon primary care centre, Horwich Health & Wellbeing Hub was delivered through our long-standing partnership with United Healthcare Developments Ltd (UHDL).
This cutting-edge medical centre is one of the UK’s first primary healthcare buildings to achieve Net Zero Carbon status and a BREEAM Outstanding rating, setting a benchmark for future primary care developments, combining sustainability, innovation, and community impact.
Working closely with PRP Architects and UHDL, we delivered the 27,692 sq. ft Horwich Health & Wellbeing Hub with a focus on energy efficiency, sustainability and clinical functionality. The three-storey building comprises dedicated suites for consultation, examination, treatment and meetings. External works included secure staff and patient parking and landscaped gardens.
The building achieved an Energy Performance Certificate rating of A+ and operates without traditional heating systems. Instead, it relies on integrated ventilation and a ‘fabric first’ approach to building performance. Solar panels and high-efficiency insulation ensure minimal reliance on fossil fuels, supporting its Net Zero Operational Energy status. The envelope of the building was specifically engineered to minimise heat loss, maximise daylight, and maintain excellent air quality across all rooms. This ensures not only operational sustainability but also a comfortable and productive environment for patients and staff.

Horwich Health & Wellbeing Hub marks the third Net Zero Carbon healthcare centre we have built for UHDL, reinforcing a powerful design-and-deliver model based on early client engagement and shared environmental goals. This partnership allowed for nimble decision-making, creative problem-solving, and a strong focus on innovation at every stage.

Our team at Horwich Health & Wellbeing Hub ensured we fulfilled our deep-rooted commitment to creating a positive local impact, and invested in a host of community initiatives throughout the project. These included a £1,000 sponsorship for Adlington Panthers FC, a £500 donation to Horwich Allotments for new sheds and shelving, and a £250 contribution to Horwich Foodshare. The team also supported the Computer Xplorers Tech Summer Camp, volunteering time and resources to support young people’s learning.
