At Hudson Quarter in York we delivered a landmark mixed-use development within the city’s historic walls on behalf of Palace Capital.
A striking brick-clad residential and commercial destination, Hudson Quarter comprises 127 luxury apartments, Grade A offices and additional commercial spaces all set within beautifully landscaped grounds. Hudson Quarter integrates seamlessly with its historic surroundings while meeting modern-day needs for connectivity, sustainability and wellbeing.
Hudson Quarter consists of three concrete-framed residential blocks ranging from five to eight storeys, offering 122,000 sq ft of residential space, alongside a 34,500 sq ft Grade-A office building, an additional 5,000 sq ft of commercial space and 100 surface parking spaces.
With a high-quality brick façade and bespoke hand-crafted sills and lintels, Hudson Quarter perfectly complements York’s architectural heritage. Delivered with sustainability in mind, Hudson Quarter saw a fabric-first approach to energy efficiency, helping to achieve an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) A rating.

Delivering Hudson Quarter in a tight city centre location posed a number of challenges for our team. Our site was located just inside the York City Walls and near the busy train station, requiring highly sensitive and strategic construction methods.
We adopted low-vibration techniques to protect nearby historical structures and implemented strict environmental controls to minimise noise and dust. Restricted site access demanded careful logistical planning, supported by continuous communication with the local authority and neighbouring community to manage traffic flow and address concerns in real time.

At Hudson Quarter we delivered much more than just building work; we created a high-performance asset for the future. The residential buildings achieved enhanced airtightness and thermal comfort standards, and benefited from a detailed low-carbon feasibility study, with sustainable technologies specified to reduce emissions. Acoustic analysis ensured peaceful living environments.
WiredScore accreditation was secured for the commercial space, guaranteeing fast, reliable digital infrastructure. Smart value engineering, including alternative brick sourcing and product specification, met budget requirements without a compromise to quality or planning standards.

At Hudson Quarter, our site team achieved an impressive score of 42 during a Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS) inspection, and was praised for exceptional standards in site appearance, community respect, environmental protection, workforce wellbeing, and safety. Inspectors highlighted the team’s proactive community engagement, attention to mental health, and robust safety measures.
