Caddick delivered the first extra care facility in Lancaster on behalf of Progress Housing Association, providing high-quality accommodation for residents aged 55 and over who require varying levels of care.

The project transformed a former University of Lancaster site, previously home to student accommodation, into a modern and inclusive community focused on comfort, accessibility, and wellbeing.

A Modern and Supportive Living Environment

The development consisted of the construction of a 92-apartment extra care scheme, incorporating one- and two-bedroom homes, with three wheelchair-accessible one-bedroom apartments designed for enhanced mobility. In addition, two existing buildings on site were converted into 16 one- and two-bedroom general needs flats, retaining the site’s heritage while providing high-quality modern living spaces.

The scheme also incorporated a range of shared amenities, including assisted and spa bathing facilities, a hairdressing salon, games room, roof terraces, and a laundry room, creating a vibrant and social environment that promotes independence and wellbeing.

Blending Heritage with Sustainability

External works included the alteration and remodelling of existing stone boundary walls, extensive landscaping, and the creation of a car park with EV charging points. The project also delivered the restoration of historical sandstone buildings and the installation of sensitive external lighting, ensuring the development complemented its surroundings while meeting modern standards for sustainability and accessibility.

Progress Housing Group have been very pleased with the quality of work and professionalism shown by Caddick Construction in the commencement of our Extra Care development in Lancaster. To support us in starting on site, Caddick were also able to take on the additional services diversion works after we had been let down by another contractor.
